It’s almost always for a selfish reason though. For instance, health insurance in the U.S. could easily go away if the government combined all of the funding for public healthcare systems. It won’t happen because of the for profit healthcare industry.

A government of autists would come up with optimized solutions to many problems. The issue is that most people are resistant to actually fixing things, so everyone would just get mad.

$25 copay per month for a 5 minute visit so I can get a refill on my $10 prescription. Without insurance the visit is around $200. I’ve considered trying to get prescriptions through one of those online pharmacies to avoid having to go to the doctor every month.

This was one of my big complaints with Biden and now Harris. I’ll still vote for them, but I have to stay at a shitty job that I fucking hate so that I can afford my mental health subscription.

I have a theory that many Americans believe that if you are poor/suffering, then you are obviously being punished by God/karma and therefore deserve to suffer. I believe it’s a rationalization for their own selfishness.

The differential bolts on my ford 8.8" are 1/2". Also the lower intake manifold bolts on a gm 3.8l were 3/8" even though everything else was metric. I’m sure there’s also oil drain plugs that are not metric.

I used to hear this kind of shit all the time when I had a trumper as a supervisor. The answer is mental healthcare and economic opportunities. If you’ve ever been to a local jail, you’ll quickly realize that the majority of people there needed a mental health intervention in their early childhood. Problem is that there’s no will by anyone to do it. Parents are resistant because of the stigma. Even if they’re not, the cost of mental healthcare is too high if it’s not covered by insurance. Even if it’s covered you get a p-doc once a month for 15 minutes. Nevermind trying to get a diagnosis from a child who can’t explain their symptoms because their symptoms are just normal for them in the first place. Then you have to try different medications at different doses and get everyone on board to take the medication on time every day. That’s all if you can get a doctor that listens to what a kid says. Doing all this as an adult is exhausting, can’t imagine trying to do it as a kid and having to trust a number of other adults not to fuck up.

They exist, but they might not work with all hardware and keyboards. The problem with the industrial space is that nobody really thinks to keep something around like that just in case. Something stops working and then it’s a scramble to get it back up and running again.

It becomes an issue when hardware is involved. I’ve seen industrial machines with 386 based touchscreens. Things as simple as a PS2 keyboard start getting hard to find and downtime costs a lot.
