Ali I see is a “pretty butterfly”
I love it when actual experts chime in! Especially when it improves my understanding.
My source was me: working in my country’s equivalent to the BBC, just not specifically in the studio part. So, kind of second hand, slightly corrupted, fun facts gleamed from colleagues.
Yeah, just a mis-read or typo of the word is by far the simplest explanation.
Teleprompters are also phonetic. So some words are mangled to be pronounced quickly.
It’s entirely likely that what he actually read of the promoter was something like “PAN-TEES” which only “groks” once said aloud (reading and speaking are quite separate parts of the brain BTW).
Edit: it means that news readers are just inefficient text-to-speech systems implemented in wetware.
I made myself sad writing that.
IMHO cause and effect are the other way around. They either become or always have been crazy, at some point their partners realise this and bail. Then, unchecked, they go full-crazy.
There’s a House episode along those lines.
Obviously it was excessive
That’s the only bit that matters.
Hmm. Yeah. That is exactly what would happen.
Though the possible advantage of that is the bargaining power of the cinemas increases compared to the distributors… as if cinemas should have some form of union ;-)
If enough of them die, then that particular market will need to correct. The movie industry needs consumers.
Or, to put it another way, the current business models need to die, so they can be replaced with better models.
Standalone cinemas are still the norm in NZ.
The odd one is part of a larger entertainment complex.
That sounds like the invisible hand of the market weeding out failing competitors.
Cinemas made all their money on tickets before TV.
Then TV came along, then ridiculously predatory movie distribution contracts, then the Internet.
Their response? Apparently. Using the police to enforce their terms of service regarding food sales.
What’s next; calling the police when you don’t watch the advertisements?
Cinemas: our business model sucks so much we have to sell overpriced food!
So? Just die already. Bye.
It’s a good change!
Was it an official act as president?
